It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it. \r - Descartes

Technically speaking, the best way to boost your creativity is to boost the communication flow between your two brain hemispheres: your left and right brains.

Apparently during the creative process, our left and right brains are focused on the problem, exchanging information to and fro in a form of a partnership.

Highly creative people are known to have an easy and unobstructed flow of information between their left and right brains. They know how to increase the stimulation to their brain and expose it to lots of experiential stimulation, stretching and expanding its creative prowess by bringing it to new uncharted waters.

After all, they understand that every learning experience is a mental one. And the more mentally stimulating and experiential an activity is, the more they learn.

======================
\r Seizing The Opportunity
\r ======================

One of the most fundamental skills of creativity is the ability to see an opportunity and seize it.

Every day, we are faced with countless opportunities to develop our creative thinking skills. Such opportunities present themselves while we are at home with the kids, going to work, at the workplace, at board meetings, out to lunch, or hanging out in the pubs with our friends.

The problem we face is not so much a lack of activities or events to stimulate our creative senses. There is in fact no shortage of encounters for us to develop our creativity. The real challenge is for us to recognize these moments as opportunities for seizing and for creative outburst.

======================
\r Challenging Assumptions
\r ======================

Many inventions were the result of people who were willing to challenge assumptions that existed during their time.

People tend to see only what they think to see. Every time we look at something that is in our world, we make our own assumptions about the reality before us. We based our lives and decisions on those assumptions we make. If we accept those assumptions as real and concrete, we will live by them. However, the moment someone chooses to challenge those same assumptions as unreal, he or she may be on the road to discovering something new and different.

Challenging assumptions is an important component of creativity because it forces us to look beyond what is already accepted or is obvious. It can lead to the kind of perceptual breakthroughs we are looking for in the problems before us.

Oftentimes our assumptions of things are so entrenched that it never crosses our minds to challenge them. These assumptions are apparently so established that we no longer question their validity, even though time has passed and things have changed. We are so used to them that we simply accept them as they are.

But many of our lifes problems are tainted with false assumptions and they prevent us from thinking something new and different. They stifle our creativity and the result is the more or less the same set of tried solutions. No new and novel possibilities.

======================
\r Taking Risks
\r ======================

Taking risks is part and parcel of being a creative thinker.

If youre not willing to take risks (and these can include calculated risks) and experience failure, then you cannot expect to be a great creative thinker. No one truly succeeds without failing first. And no one truly becomes a creative genius without having to risk his ideas.

However, if you really want to experience major leaps in your creativity, then youll have to learn to take risks. Youll fail but failure is good: it accelerates the learning process by generating new information and science has shown that our brain literally rewires itself each time we make a mistake. Our brain learns through a series of trials and errors.

Looking At Problems From A New Perspective

No new ideas will evolve from old perspectives. To create a new product, you must be able to visualize that new product. But you cannot do this if you keep looking at your problem from the same perspective.

You got to look at your problems from a new perspective in order to gain new insights. By changing your perspective and shifting to a new one, you will be able to expand your mental horizon and capture something you were previously unable to see. Only by seeing something new, will you be able to think up new ideas and create something new.

======================
\r Thinking Ambiguously
\r ======================

The ability to think ambiguously is a great boon to yielding creative insights.

This same ability is being exhibited every time someone indulges in wordplay or humor.

People who can think ambiguously are known to be fluid and flexible thinkers. A tinge of ambiguous thinking during the idea generation stage of the creative process has the power to bring out a genius of an idea!

However, the main problem in our society is that people generally prefer things that are clear and unambiguous. They dont like to associate themselves with things that are vague and have more than one meaning. As a result, we become rather rigid in the way we think, preferring to be involved in only things that have clear and specific parameters. The outcome: predictability.

Why Do We Want to Be Creative?
The first and most important question to ask ourselves is why we want to be creative. If our answer is not profound, then our chances of becoming truly creative are slim. Creativity arises in absence of the mundane. If we want to be creative so that we stand out from the rest, or become famous or wealthy; in other words, if we have a purpose in becoming creative, we probably wont. We might shift some old programs around in our minds and come up w...

Creatively Speaking

Geschreven door admin in Creativity Training

Recently a friend was talking to me about her first experience in a store where you can paint your own pottery. She was excited and animated while talking about this experience, and explained how she wanted to be there everyday during lunch to paint. That she could just live in that store and paint all day. I understand that passion and loved seeing it in her.

Then she said something that I nearly fell off my chair. Ive never done anything like this before in my life, Im one of those people who have no talent, or an artistic bone in my body. I asked her if she really truly believed that, and she indicated that she did honestly feel that way.

I do not believe that about any person. I believe especially in people who havent found their niche yet, that there is a wealth of hidden, undiscovered talent, which just hasnt been found yet. I love meeting people like this because to me, I sense a treasure hunt.

I have found in my life that the seasons where Im not doing something creative, there was something vital missing. That Im off balance somewhat. Ive been that way since I was a child. I believe people are born with a need to express their creativity. The obstacles to blocked creativity are finding what that medium should be, and probably also defining some goals, and perhaps some defined reasons they are blocked.

Expand your thinking and definition of what creativity is. It isnt only a person who can draw or paint or write. Most didnt just take it up and were good at it at their first attempt. It was a natural talent, but it needed developed. They learned and practiced to become good at what they do. Just about anything and any medium can be created into art. Gardening can be an art form for instance. Ive seen some gardens that truly were a work of art and almost breath taking. Ive seen junk turned into art, theres jewelry making, basket weaving, knitting, spinning your own yarn, photography, too much to list. Start thinking big.

Where does your interest lie? Take some time to really think about that. What are some areas youve told yourself, someday Id like to learn that. What are some areas that youve seen others do that you find totally amazing and you seem to be the last one hanging around admiring all the small, finite details, wanting to know all about it? Look at those areas first.

Invest in yourself. Take a class, get a book or find a possible mentor. Put into action a commitment to learn. Each one who has mastered a skill goes through a learning process and starts at step one. Start. Put away the excuses and fears. It doesnt have to be perfect; you dont even need to show it to others if you dont want to. Give yourself permission to fail, but give it enough time and dedication to see if its something that fits you or not. If it doesnt, move on to try something else, but keep looking until you find that fit.

Dont be terribly surprised if doing this however, brings up issues in your life. Ive found in mine that to be true. Im not sure if its because its working another part of your brain and taps into that creative side or what. But Ive found that to push through those feelings, to talk to a good friend or safe person about those feelings. In the last few years Ive taken up candlemaking, and I had made candles as a child as well, so it was a return for me to an art form I long ago loved doing. I was very surprised at some major issues to come to the surface in my life, things far too personal to go into here, but they were so major that I nearly quit; despite that it was something I loved doing and had invested heavily in. I cried for 2 weeks. After grieving an ugly truth I had long ago pushed down and ignored in my spirit, I realized that ugly thing had robbed me too much in my life already, and it was time for its power over me to stop. Through the pain, I chose to make it a business and it came forth with the name: Joyful Designs in Soy. I gained some real personal freedom through that process which I am deeply grateful for, and my business name is a declaration of a new truth in my life. I also carry a new joy that I didnt have before, into the rest of my life.

Our creative side isnt just about what were doing, its also about who we are, and that touches people near us. Just like tossing a stone into a pond, those ripples it creates, flow out and affects others.

Lets start by defining what being creative is and before you read on, I would like you to think for a moment how you would define creativity?

Being creative means to create something that does not exists. What you create is entirely up to you, it could be a solution or a method or an idea that you could work upon in your personal or professional life.

If you think that being creative is for people in art and you happen to be working for big corporations then you may decide that increased creativity is not important for you. But creativity is something far broader than artistic expression and is required in many aspects of life.

If you still think that being creative is for artists, painters, musicians and others who directly belong to any form of Arts, then you need to think again. Dont CEOs and people at various levels in the organization require creativity to conceptualize a new product or create a new idea to sell their product to the market?

They are all working on problems and devising solutions that didnt exist before. These people are using their minds to imagine fresh ways of doing something, putting together existing forms and ideas in new ways.

They may be creating a new idea, a new look, a new product, or new technique. Sometimes the ability to be more creative can lead to personal fame and fortune; sometimes it just provides a deep sense of personal satisfaction.

Can we improve creativity? Yes, of course we can. Read on to find out how.

1. Visualize through Meditation
\r Creativity is reduced when our senses are dulled. Sleep well, eat well and meditate often. I know many of us dont have the liberty of time available to mediate at home, so apply a bit of creativity. You have a problem with availability of time; use your time while traveling to do so. Just a good 10 15 minutes of meditation can put you in the right path towards becoming creative.

During this exercise, learn to breathe softly and try to relax your body completely. Once at this state, try to imagine being in a forest or any place that you like. Try visualizing the surrounding in details. Try to listen to your surrounding and keep strolling around that place and keep discovering new things.

2. Be curious about the world
\r I would recommend that you start watching the Discovery channel. Watch the programming that you like the best and keep thinking about the why and how from it. Watching such programs help your brain to learn something new. Such learning can be applied to a situation where you would require creative thinking.

3. Do something which does not interest you
\r If you hate reading, then start reading a book. If you dont like a particular type of music, then start listening to such music. The point here is to expose your brain to as many new things and concepts as possible. You never know what new learning you might use to solve a problem later in life.

4. Keep observing your environment
\r While traveling to work or anywhere, observe your surroundings. Look at the various billboards and scenery around you. Enjoy what you see and start asking questions of what-if. I personally enjoy reading all billboards and attach my what-if questions to advertisements. I try to dig and understand what the creator of the advertiser had in mind when he/she created the piece \r of work.

5. Pick up a hobby that you enjoy
\r Do you have a hobby? If no, then start now by asking yourself what you enjoy. Do you enjoy music? Do you enjoy collecting items? Do you enjoy entertaining people? Do you enjoy writing? Do you enjoy drawing/painting? Do you enjoy crafts?

Having a hobby helps you in many ways and directly helps you in improving your creativity. It forces you to think out of the box during the period when you are conducting your hobby. My only hobby is magic. I enjoy entertaining people and hence learn new moves & techniques all the time and spend some of my time in practicing and mastering them. You might not like magic, but thats ok. Try finding something that you like and devote some time to it. You will see a remarkable improvement in your creative ability.

Closing notes:

There are two sides of the brain, left and right. The right side of the brain is responsible for creativity, whereas the left side of the brain is logical.

How do you find what type of person you are? If you can remember names more than faces, then you are a left brained person and if you can remember faces more than names then you are right brained person. This means that either your left or the right brain has greater impact on you.

Some quotes on creativity:

The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.
\r Albert Einstein

To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.
\r Henri L Bergson

There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence transform a yellow spot into the sun.
\r Pablo Picasso

Picture the scene: After a difficult and seemingly endless day at work, you battle your way home through the rush hour traffic, stagger through your front door looking like youve mentally gone 10 rounds with a heavyweight boxer, kick off your shoes, and slump on the sofa.

Your head is pounding, you barely have the energy to keep your eyes open and the mere thought of even standing up again takes more effort than youre able to muster.

What greater luxury is there in these occasions than a long soak in a hot bath, up to your ears in soft fragrant bubbles, a chilled glass of your favourite wine and soothing music playing in the background?

Throw in some scented candles, indulgent chocolates and the lover of your dreams massaging your feet and youd probably never leave the bathroom again..!

By immersing ourselves in such an experience, taking care of all the fine details and ensuring that each element combines and contribute to that overall aim of relaxing and letting go of the stress and tensions of the day, were able to give ourselves the chance to be fully involved, and so enjoy it as much as possible.

Now imagine the same scene, but instead of gentle music theres relentless rock or dance music pumping away. Or instead of being lit by candles, the room is lit by fluorescent strip lighting. Or that delicious wine is replaced by flat lukewarm cola.

Wouldnt be the same would it? In fact if just one of the key elements in this idyllic scene is completely wrong, it spoils the whole experience.

From time to time, its important to treat ourselves and our creativity and give it the same kind of luxurious indulgence and pampering as above.

To totally immerse ourselves in a creative project without distraction, even for just an hour or two, and to get back in touch with what it feels like to be totally connected and in the flow of our creative energy, can rejuvenate us in a way that lasts long after the experience itself is over.

So here are some of the elements to consider to help you set up some of these invaluable Creative Immersion Sessions for yourself:

Physical environment Where is your favourite place for creating? It may be a studio or study, it may be outdoors, in your garden or a forest glade, or it may be curled up in bed with cosy duvet.

Sound Do you enjoy creating with particular music playing? Does a different type of music aid different creative activities? Do you prefer complete silence? Maybe you enjoy the trickle of a brook in the background (either real or recorded)?

Isolation/ Company Do you prefer to be locked away on your own with no-one else around to produce your best creative work? Or do you enjoy hearing the bustle of people moving around nearby? Maybe your creativity peaks in particular when youre working with other creative people?

Refreshments and energy Do you like to have food and drink close by to keep your energy levels topped up or would you rather refresh yourself beforehand then focus entirely on creating?

Mental preparation Do you like to throw yourself straight into creating or go through a ritual or meditation before hand, to prepare yourself and your mind to be in the best state for creativity?

Tools and Resources Would you rather have all the tools and resources you may need close to hand at all times or just begin with something simple and seek out the necessary extra tools or resources if and when you need them?

Consider all of these elements and any others that are important to you before having your Creative Immersion Session. Then throw yourself into it and enjoy the experience and results.

These sessions taken periodically can refresh your creative energy no end, and combined with creating a little each and every day, can ensure your creativity stays nourished and open and gets the opportunities and outlets it deserves.

What does age have to do with creativity? You may think you are too old to do anything creative with your life. If so, read the following facts:

GIUSEPPE VERDI wrote Falstaff when he was eighty his best opera.
\r BENJAMIN FRANKLIN invented the bifocal lens when he was seventy-eight.
\r FRANK LOYD WRIGHT completed the Guggenheim Museum one of his masterpieces, when he was ninety-one years of age
\r MICHELANGELO was painting and striking frescoes in the Pauline chapel of the Vatican at eighty-nine.
\r SO, the ability to change things around us and thus contribute to the culture may actually increase in the later years.

MADELINE LENGEL (a writer) said her personal credo is well summarized by these few lines, which reflect the stubbornness that has stood her in such good stead so far:

Human beings are the only creatures who are allowed to fail. If an ant fails, its dead. But were allowed to learn from our mistakes and from our failures. And thats how I learn, by falling flat on my face and picking myself up and starting all over again. If Im not free to fail, I will never start another book, Ill never start a new thing.

The ability to discover what one can do well, and enjoy doing it, is the hallmark of all creative people. After you make that discovery you will never work again. Pray and ask God to help you discover your truest interest.

To be human means to be creative. Living creatively links us with God in whose creative image we are made.

HOW YOU CAN BE CREATIVE:
\r Find out what you like and what you hate about life.
\r Start doing more of what you love, less of what you hate.
\r Develop what you lack.
\r Find ways to express what moves you.
\r Look at problems from as many viewpoints as possible.
\r Most important in life are: Love and Work.

Did you know that even a brain specialist could not tell Einsteins brain from yours or mine? In terms of capacity for processing information, all brains are extremely alike.

Experience has shown that when selfish goals dominate our thinking, there is no attention or time left over to learn about anything else or to approach the world creatively. Will creative goals dominate your thinking today so you can contribute something worthwhile to those around you?

Taking care of ourselves, doing all we can to maintain our creative environments and abilities, is often the key to greater creativity. This means enabling you to increase creativity in terms of quality as well quantity.

Much like an old run-down house with poor central heating, rattling windows and a leaky roof, if you dont take care of yourself creatively and look after your Creative Home - then slowly and steadily your creative energy will be wasted and youll be frustrated and struggling to produce the kind of work you want to.

So here are five of the potential danger areas where your creative energy may be trickling, or gushing, away from your Creative Home, and how to combat them:

1. Too many windows open!

Problem- Having too many windows open literally if youre working on a computer can mean a dilution of your creative energy and focus. By spreading yourself out too much and not concentrating on one or two projects, you run the risk of being overwhelmed by how much there seems to be for you to get on with. Essentially, youll experience the paralysis of the blank canvas effect multiplied many times over.

Solution- Narrow your focus. Pick a maximum of three projects to work on at any time, put any others you have away somewhere in a file or a different room, somewhere not visible to you where you normally work. Then pick the ONE creative project that means most to you right now, and set yourself some goals in what you wish to achieve and a set time period. Start small and build as you gain momentum.

For example if youre writing a novel, you might set yourself the goal of writing the opening two chapters within the next month. Or you may wish to break it down further and set the goal of writing a page a day for the next 5 days. You know yourself how you work best so tailor your goals to suit you.

2. Not enough radiators!

Problem- People we mix with can be radiators they radiate positive energy and support you or they can be drains they literally drain your positive energy with their negativity and criticism. Think about the five people you spend most time with. How many of them are radiators, who give out support and nurture your creativity, and how many are drains, who relentlessly draw your creative energy from you?

Solution- Eliminate the drains, invest in more radiators. Once youve identified how supportive or otherwise the people around you are, you can take action. If you found that you even have one or two who are draining your energy, replace them with radiators. Sometimes simply explaining calmly and confidently to someone that you appreciate their (negative) comments but are quite happy with the direction your heading in, can stop their negativity.

If it doesnt, cut out, or at least reduce, the time you spend with them. Also, seek out additional people who will be supportive and positive and who you can support too. Join or start a group in your area or on the internet for people who are similarly want to increase creativity and share your aspirations and ideas.

3. Depressing or uninspiring dcor!

Problem- The area you do most of your creative work in is uninspiring or worse is just plain depressing. The room is cold or draughty, your chairs uncomfortable, and the wallpaper youve had for the last 12 years is peeling away at the edges

Solution- Have an interior makeover. Surround yourself and your creative work area with dcor that will energise and inspire. For you this may mean calm neutral colours with a few well placed pictures or quotes around you, or it might mean a glorious riot of colours, images and textures.

Again, you know what works best for you, try different things and notice how you respond in terms of how you increase creativity. Taking a few hours to make your creative study or workspace more inspiring and motivating will repay you many times over in greater creativity.

4. Poor security!

Problem- You have a poor defence system in place so when someone does make a disparaging or negative comment about your work, you take it badly and instantly doubt yourself and your creativity. You begin to wonder why youre bothering with this creative project at all and whether youve got what it takes to be creative and produce significant and interesting work.

Solution- Toughen up your defence system. This begins with developing an awareness of when negativity creeps in, from others around you, as well as from yourself. In addition to becoming more aware and stopping negative thought cycles before they escalate, it makes sense to built in some preventative measures to strengthen yourself too.

One of the most effect and widely used ways of building confidence and self-belief is to use affirmations. These are simple statements that you repeat to yourself many times over until they becoming imprinted in your thoughts and replace and repel negative beliefs.

For example I am a highly creative., My creative projects are stimulating and worthwhile., I am developing each day as a creative artist.. Use these and add more of your own. Remember though with affirmations the key is to use them as often as possible, many times a day at least.

5. Weak foundations or subsidence!

Problem- The very foundations of your Creative Home are in need of some serious attention. Anything you attempt to build (create) is undermined by a poor underlying structure. You stop and start creative projects erratically and never really get going with anything.

Solution- Put solid foundations into place. There is still amongst many creative people a belief that creativity comes in short hot bursts and then disappears again, that theyre at the beck and call of some mysterious and elusive muse.

In reality, the only way to produce consistently satisfying work is to develop regular creative routines and habits. By doing a little each day, over time we can all achieve amazing works creatively, rather than spending days or even months on end simply waiting for the inspiration to strike us again.

As well as setting aside time to create a little each day, even if only for 15 minutes each morning, go out and actively seek new ideas and inspiration from the world around you. And this inspiration can of course take many forms. If youre a painter it doesnt mean you can only be motivated to create by seeing other paintings. Seek out all kinds of art and creative endeavours and build the strongest foundations possible for your Creative Home.

Finding your creative groove is another way of saying finding your creative voice, expressing yourself in a way thats purely and honestly you, sharing the things youre compelled to share with the world through your art and creative work.

Another, equally important, part of your creative groove is creating in a style and a rhythm that works well for you and allows you to create as freely as possible. This includes having (take a deep breath here) habits and systems in place that allow you to be as creative as possible.

You know when youve found your creative groove because you create without thinking, completely lose track of time when youre creating and have a head absolutely bursting with ideas that you cant bring to life quickly enough.

You feel happy, often ecstatic, that this is what youre supposed to be doing, its what youre here for, your raison detre.

How do you get into the groove then?

Here are 7 top tips for getting into and staying in your creative groove:

1. Create at a regular time. Whether its morning, midday, evening or late at night, find the time that works best for you and that you find it easiest to create, and stick to it. Every day.

2. Listen to yourself. You know when youre creating something that feels special, that feels like this is the truest expression of your creativity that youre capable of. Listen to yourself, find the tiny details that make creating at these times so enjoyable and replicate them as often as you can.

3. Try new and different creative projects. If you only ever create in one tightly focused discipline, then you may be missing out on other ways of creating that bring a huge amount of enjoyment. Sometimes trying different ways of creating also makes us appreciate and hone what were best at.

4. Have a great set up. Define a place to create thats yours just for creating. Set it up so creating there is as easy as possible, have all your creative tools and equipment ready and to hand so you can go to your creative space and get straight into your creative groove without delay or distraction.

5. Have a ready supply of ideas to develop. If youre trying to pull ideas from thin air each time you create its a recipe for frustration and a lot of wasted time. Keep an ideas journal with you at all times and jot down your ideas as soon as they come to you. Then youll have a ready supply to draw from and develop.

6. Keep your supplies topped up. Especially if your creative medium relies on physical materials like paint, cloth, clay or beads. Running out of basic supplies is a sure-fire way of throwing you out of your creative groove.

7. Review and acknowledge your progress. Its easy to overlook and take for granted when you are in a creative groove and creating freely and abundantly. Take the time to regularly acknowledge your progress and congratulate yourself for having the courage and discipline to lead the creative life you do lead.

These are 7 great tips for finding and staying in your creative groove.

Which can you take steps towards using in your creative life today?

The pressure to \”be a success\” is possibly greater these days than in any time previously in human society.

And its not just success in one particular field or area of our lives. Theres an expectation for us to achieve in all things - to be a wonderful parent, a supportive friend, a good son or daughter, a groundbreaking artist AND a community minded member of our society to name just a few.

This expectation and pressure appears to come from a wide range of sources our peers, parents, media and society at large.

But ultimately, there is only one person who can define what \”success\” is for any of us. That person is ourselves.

A Vision for your Creative Life

Lets focus for now just on your creative life.

Think about the different ways in which you want to be creative, the different projects and areas, the different mediums you want to be creating with.

Begin with the creative discipline that youre most close to you, the one you keep returning to, whether it be writing, fashion design, painting, scrapbooking, photography, film-making or anything else.

Imagine you could have all the success you wanted in that major area of your creativity tomorrow. What would that mean to you, what would it look like, what would it feel like, what would it sound like?

Take some time to colour in the details as vividly as possible. Write out exactly what youll be doing, how often, where youll be, what will be happening around you, who youll be mixing with. Make it as descriptive and full a vision as possible.

Rather than writing this out just with words, you could create this vision in the form of a picture or collage. Cut out images from magazines that you connect with as part of your vision of creative success and arrange them together on a large sheet of paper with a picture of yourself at the centre.

Bear in mind too that this vision may be describing an ongoing state, rather than a fixed point.

For example rather than writing - \”I have written a best selling novel\”, for you a vision of success for your writing may be something like - \”I continue to experiment with my writing and publish 3 articles a month in wide range of different publications\” or \”I write the most beautiful and honest prose Im capable of at any one time\”.

Who REALLY owns the vision?

Once you have this strong vision of your creative life as a success, ask this crucial question -

Is this really YOUR vision?

Is this what YOU truly want? Do you really connect with it? Does it belong to you, is it what will make you happy?

Or has this vision of creative success come from someone or somewhere else?

Will achieving this will make YOU happy and proud, or just other people around you?

This is such an important question, and if you find, as many of us do, that youve been pursuing a certain vision or goal to please or satisfy someone else, its time to stop and redefine.

And before your inner critic chimes in with comments like \”Youre SO selfish, just pursuing what YOU want\”, remember that the happier and more meaningful our lives are, the more were able to contribute to the happiness of others, the more were naturally and easily able to spread that creativity and joy amongst those close to us.

So whats your personal vision for YOUR creative success? And, in the coming days, months and years, how can you stay connected to it and ensure it remains your vision and not someone elses?

Most famous inventors have done it with a single invention or a single idea. Actually that is all it takes - just one really good idea - to change your life forever!

It is important to note here that people do not just stumble onto ideas all the time. Many times there is a lot of work that goes into it. You can create an environment that is conducive to the generation of invention ideas, more so that single idea that is capable of changing everything.

You are much more likely to stumble onto your big idea in an area or industry that you are already extremely familiar with. A much-loved hobby is a great help. There is no denying the fact that chances of your stumbling on a great invention idea are much more likely to happen while you are doing something that you really enjoy doing. Something that you have no problem spending hours on end doing. There are several reasons for this. Firstly people get brilliant invention ideas on areas and industries that they understand extremely well. Then there is the simple fact that chances of you stumbling on a great invention idea increase the more time you spend on the related environment. People will spend more and more time effortlessly on something they really enjoy.

Not everybody believes in destiny, but the truth of the matter is that every human on the planet is born with a particular purpose in this life and your purpose will tend to be very close to something you really enjoy doing. In other words, you big idea in this life is hidden in something really close to your heart.

Still, whatever it is that you believe, the fact remains that all you need to change your life is just one brilliant invention idea. Then you need to have enough knowledge on how to get it from your drawing boards to the waiting world out there.

For more details on how to turn your ideas and inventions into products I would recommend this amazing invention ebook by Frank L Stapleton.

When we think how to improve or increase our creativity, often we tend to look at the things we COULD DO.

But what if we think about this from a different perspective?

Instead of looking at the things we could add to our lives to enable us to be the creative people we want to be, consider what we could take away, the things that stop us from being creative.

Put simply, what are the enemies of your creativity?

And following on from this, what is the NUMBER ONE ENEMY OF YOUR CREATIVITY, the one single thing that prevents you from being as creative as you want to be and have the potential to be?

As youll discover, this can be any one of a number of different things.

Maybe its a repeating habit or behaviour you have that you feel continually prevents you from being more creative?

Maybe you dont ever feel you have the time to devote to your creative pursuits? You feel if only you had an extra hour each day, then your creativity would flow freely and abundantly?

Maybe you feel its an issue of space and environment? You dont have a room or area that is just yours, somewhere you can go to and feel comfortable in, and be inspired, relaxed, energised, whatever it is you need to help you get in the right frame of mind to be at your creative best?

Or does it actually come down to a single limiting belief? The one thing that stops you from unlocking the true creative potential within you is simply that you dont believe you ever WILL unlock it.

Or maybe, deep down, you dont actually believe that you can be as creative as you want to be anyway. Or you dont believe you can be as creative as you used to be, so you hold back to spare yourself from disappointment?

Whichever of these resonate with you, dont be too hard on yourself, we all have these kind of obstacles!

The aim of this is to look at how we can begin to remove the blockages, not to blame, criticise or punish ourselves for not being more creative.

So, being completely honest with yourself, sit down with a pen and some paper and write out all the things that you feel limit your creativity, however large or small they seem.

Once youve done this, again being totally honest with yourself, identify the biggest single factor that hinders your creativity, the NUMBER ONE ENEMY OF YOUR CREATIVITY.

Now comes the part where you can really begin to see how much it is holding you back, and what its costing you. Write in as much depth as you can your thoughts on the following

What would you be without the number one enemy of your creativity? What would happen if it simply could not exist, it was totally eliminated? What kind of person would you be? How would your creative output be different? How would your life be different?

Write out every detail possible. Now compare this to your life currently. Dont you think its worth beginning to take steps to reduce the negative impact of your number one enemy?

Just identifying and writing down the things that hold us back is often the most difficult part. Once we can see what were dealing with - written down on the page in simple words - their impact is already reduced.

Its the equivalent of seeing our enemy out in the open with a huge spotlight beaming down. Without any camouflage or disguise, we can see what were really dealing with. And, reassuringly, we usually realise that once out in the open, its actually far less daunting than when darting elusively around in the shadows of our thoughts…

So, what is the first thing YOU could do, the first step you could take in reducing the restrictive effect the number one enemy of your creativity has?

The sooner you begin putting this in place, the sooner your creative life can be how you want to be. Take this action TODAY and move a little closer to fulfilling your creative potential…
